AI has been sprinting like Usain Bolt at the Olympics. We're talking eight years of progress jam-packed into a short six-month burst. It's like trying to catch a speedboat with a paddleboard – not the easiest task. That's where we step in, translating the biz-tech scene for you like a universal language made for the tech-curious.

Welcome to the 1st Edition. Today we’re going to go over:

  • Why You should care about AI

  • Overview of core products of AI (Product Round-Up)

  • 3 Free tools you can play around with today in the Founders’ Toolbox

  • Bonus: A destination you should probably travel to once you leave your screen

Enter: Artificial Intelligence

Enter the Enigmatic Realm of AI: An Intriguing Prelude

Alright, for real now - "Why should I really care?"

Goldman Sachs estimates around 300 million jobs could be affected by generative AI, meaning 1 in 5 jobs globally could be automated. At your next zoom, hangout, or Slack call - and I’m sure you can already sense who’s going to be the first to be replaced (assuming it’s not you).

The report also states that researchers from the University of Pennsylvania and OpenAI found that white-collar workers earning in the $80k/annum range are the most likely affected first by automation. That’s some middle-management stress right there. There are a bunch more insights but you get the point.

Bill Gates wrote an article last month on his blog and here’s an excerpt that compares the introduction of Windows to….

“In my lifetime, I’ve seen two demonstrations of technology that struck me as revolutionary. The first time was in 1980, when I was introduced to a graphical user interface” Well, I think you know where I’m going with where the second time was. He had been working with the OpenAI team since 2016, making them do all sorts of tests such as the AP Bio exam (where it scored 59/60 in 2022). I knew I had just seen the most important advance[ment] in technology since the graphical user interface."

Heavy sh*t.

Dall-E (2)

Built by OpenAI, it’s a system that can create realistic images and art from a description in natural language using short prompts and machine learning.

Imagine if a magic paintbrush could bring your words to life in vivid detail. That's Dall-E (2) for you – a brainchild of OpenAI that whips up stunning images and art from simple, natural language descriptions. It's like an art genie, fulfilling your visual wishes with a dash of machine learning.

Open source text-to-image diffusion model capable of generating photo-realistic images given any text input. Uses a machine-learning model developed by Stability AI.

Picture a world where words become images with the wave of a magic wand. Stable Diffusion is like a text-to-image alchemist, transforming your written input into stunning, photo-realistic visuals. Thanks to its machine learning sorcery conjured by Stability AI, this open-source model brings your text to life in ways you never thought possible.

Built by Anthropic. Their founders are former VPs of research, safety, and policy at OpenAI and built Claude on the premise that AI should be helpful, honest, and harmless.

What if the brains behind OpenAI came together to create a friendly AI guardian? Meet Claude+, crafted by Anthropic's founders with the noble belief that AI should be helpful, honest, and harmless. It's like having a wise, benevolent AI mentor guiding you on your curious adventures.

New addition this week - a generative AI toolkit for chat, text, and image. What makes this interesting is that it has access to models from Claude, Stable Diffusion and Amazon’s Titan.

It's like a comedy club, but for AI models, pulling in talents from Claude, Stable Diffusion, and Amazon's Titan. Amazon Bedrock is like a buffet of AI, offering a smorgasbord of Fine Models (FMs) from top AI startups and Amazon, so you can find the perfect sidekick for your digital escapades.

Now there are a few more such has Github’s Copilot X, and Facebook’s LLaMa but they either have specific use cases or just are not available yet.

Founders’ Toolbox: A Spotlight

Every week, I play with dozens and dozens of new tools and I’ll derive a few that are worthy of your experimentation.

  • Tactiq - I can’t live without this extension. I use it everyday. Tactiq is a tool that will join up meetings with you and provide a transcript of the meetings with action items, saved to google docs - for free. There are a bunch of paid features as well but the free version still makes it worth the download.

  • PlaygroundAI - Free Image creation using Stable Diffusion/Dall-E all in one place

  • Toucan - Want to learn a language but literally every other way isn’t working? Try Toucan. It will replace keywords in a language you want to learn. I’m trying Japanese.

    Toucan > Duolingo.

Let me know your thoughts or some of your favourite apps you’ve been using on the daily.

The Renegade Explorer

As some of you may know, I embarked on a backpacking journey across the globe in 2022/2023, and I've been lucky enough to explore some amazing off-the-beaten-path locations along the way. As we all know, life can be overwhelming at times, and it's important to take a break and nurture our sense of curiosity. Each week I'll be featuring a breathtaking destination alongside some beautiful photography that will inspire your next adventure.

This week's featured destination - is a breathtaking mountain landscape with a 1KM valley in between the lake and mountains.
